I will share some of my little experiences in my writing journey. By God's grace, I've written over 40 books and over 350 articles available online. So, what I will share with you are not theories; they are practical.
I’m sharing some of the principles that I used to write. Following my principles will help you become a better writer because writing demands some principles and fundamentals you must know before you build yourself.
I started writing when I was in Senior High School in Ghana. I completed Junior High School in 2008. Then, I went to Senior High School in 2008. I went to Akim Swedru Senior High School in 2008.
In Akim Swedru Senior High School, there was a bookstore in Oda where I bought a hard copy of Rick Joyner's book. It was called the Call or the Final Quest, but I believe it is the Call. As I read Rick Joyner’s book, I was inspired by the Holy Spirit.
There were empty blanks in Rick Joyner’s book, so I started writing whatever came into my mind in the empty blanks. I believe the Holy Spirit inspired me, so I kept writing inside Joyner's book.
That’s how I began writing. I don't know, but I'll just be writing whatever comes to my mind. I believe the Holy Spirit was helping me to write. I completed Senior High School in 2012.
In 2013, I was admitted to the University of Professional Studies to study for a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. I had my laptop in university, so most often, after lectures, I would take my laptop, go to the school library, and write. The idea would drop into my mind as I was there.
When an idea comes to my mind, I write it in an exercise book. In senior high school, I did not have a laptop. We had a desktop computer in our home, where we used to play computer games.
I used to preach when I was in university, and I used to preach on my YouTube channel. I wrote the sermon outlines I wanted to preach on YouTube. As of now, I have the sermon outlines that I have preached on YouTube.
I did a video preaching then, and the videos were horrible. If you come to my YouTube channel, you will not see most of my video sermons because I've made them private. That is how my writing journey began.
As a Christian, you must be baptized in the Holy Ghost because if you are baptized in the Spirit, you can pray in tongues. As I'm praying in the Holy Ghost, the idea starts coming.
I don't know how, but as I'm praying in the Holy Ghost, the ideas will come. I have an Android phone with a notepad installed on it. When the ideas come, I'll just write them down. Other times, I write the ideas in my small book.
It's just the points. So, after I get the ideas in my notepad or book, I will write them on my laptop. I will start building up on the idea. So that's the key point. The fundamentals here are that you have to build yourself in prayer.
Although it cuts around, I am speaking to Christian authors. I will teach you more principles on how to write, but this point is for Christian authors. You must be baptized in the Holy Ghost to write Christian and inspired books.
You have to pray in the Spirit. As you pray in the Holy Spirit, He will give you the ideas to start writing the books and articles. I began writing in WhatsApp groups. I had a WhatsApp group that I used to type and then send messages to them.
So, when ideas come to me, I'll write them and post them on my social media platforms (Facebook profile). It's a step-by-step process. You sometimes begin by writing in your exercise books and on a piece of paper.
I started doing that. I was writing in my exercise books and taking notes. Then I went to WhatsApp, writing and posting. Then I went to Facebook.
Then, I would just write and post on Facebook. So, you begin little by little, step by step, step by step. I started with Wix. I created a Wix blog; you will find my old articles there.
That’s where it all began. I love reading Christian books. If you want to be a Christian writer or blogger, you must fall in love with Christian books and articles. You must build yourself by reading the Holy Bible and feeding more on the Sword of the Spirit.
Feed more on the Oracles of God. As you feed on the Word of God, you get inspired. While I read the Holy Bible, I sometimes get inspired by a particular Scripture to write an article or book.
Build yourself by reading the Holy Bible. Build a prayer life; pray more in the Holy Ghost. As you are doing that, the ideas will start coming. If you are anointed to write, the ideas will start coming.
When ideas come, don't say I'll write them later. Find a place and write it down. Install a notepad on your device, get an exercise book, and start writing the ideas down if you have a smartphone.
When you write down ideas, you can build on them later. As I said, build yourself in prayer; pray more in the Holy Ghost. That's what I do most often. It helps me get ideas.
I watch important documentary videos. I love listening to essential messages by men of God. You have to develop a habit of listening to essential messages on YouTube.
Listen to the sermons of your spiritual leader. Sometimes, I get inspired while listening to the sermons or watching the videos of my spiritual leader and other men of God.
The Holy Ghost picks something that the preacher spoke. Then, I'll write on the idea as the Holy Spirit inspires me. So that is how it goes. You have to be a reader of the genre you want to write. We have fictional and non-fiction books. We have religious books, self-help books, and different categories of books.
I am more focused on religious books and Christian books. You have to be focused on the books you want to write and on the type of genre you want to write in. My main field is Christian books, although I write in different genres.
For example, I write self-help books that also relate to the Word of God. If you want to write a Christian book, fall in love with it. If you want to write a Christian book, read the Holy Bible.
Read non-fictional books if you want to write non-fictional books. Read fictional books If you're going to write fiction books. If you're going to write religious books, read religious books. Be on your lane, or else it will distract your focus. You have to be consistent, sacrificial, and focused.
When I decide to write, I’m focused. I am often indoors, in my room, on my laptop, and I type the books myself. You have to sit down and sacrifice your time. You have to be disciplined.
I discipline myself. I sacrifice my time to write and edit my books and articles. Editing my books helps me become a better writer. Don't always leave your writing to editors all the time.
I don't edit my writing while it's in progress. I write the whole article or the whole book, then go back and edit it again. I use Microsoft Office to write my books and articles. I use Microsoft Word because it has many editing tools.
I edit my books using Grammarly Premium and Pro Writing Aid Premium. There is a lot of software online that you can use to edit your books and articles, but I use Grammarly Premium.
There is a free version. You can integrate Grammarly into your Microsoft Word. After writing and reading through, use Grammarly to edit the structure, punctuation, and other grammatical errors.
If you follow these practical keys, you can become a better and faster writer. You have to be a reader and read a lot because it can help you become an excellent writer.
Edit your books yourself. When you edit it, it can help you fix powerful points and add more value to the book. For instance, when I finish writing my article or book, I edit it.
I can edit out the inappropriate content and add more value to it. If you check my website or blog, you will see what I've written—over 350 articles. I've also written a book titled How to Write and Publish Books.
I think I wrote that book around 2019 or so. If you check my blog, you can request the book for free. You can get the book for free on Amazon Kindle Unlimited if you go to Amazon.
You can also purchase the eBook online. Request a free copy on my blog, and the book will be sent to your email address. So, what I'm saying is very simple. You have to believe that God has called you to write. Sometimes, you will feel tired and frustrated in your writing journey.
It happens to me. Sometimes, I feel discouraged and tired in my writing journey. Do not allow tiredness to break you. Do not undervalue or devalue yourself. Do not limit yourself.
Don't allow your culture, financial status, lineage, family background, and bad ideology to limit you. If you let those evil thoughts dominate you, it will limit your writing journey.
Don't procrastinate. If you want to write, sit down and then discipline yourself. Sometimes, I can sit for over twelve hours to write and edit my books and articles. The articles and books on my blog took me long hours to write and edit. I sit beside my laptop.
I'll be writing and editing. Then, I'll use Grammarly Premium to edit the content. Then I'll read again—I'll read continuously, edit out the incorrect sentences, and add more value to them.
Then, I'll read and edit until I find no errors. You have to be focused, believe that God has called you to write, and focus on one specific genre.
Don't be a writer of all genres. Be focused on one particular genre. If you want to write Christian books, be focused on Christian books. If you write inspirational and motivational books, focus on that genre and read books related to your field of expertise.
For instance, I love reading Christian books, mainly non-fiction Christian books. If God has anointed you to write, you will write with little or no stress. You feel happier to write.
I FEEL OKAY when writing because it is my calling, passion, and gift. I don't feel a sense of work when writing, although it demands some work weight. I have to sit down to write.
I discipline myself to write, and it helps me to be consistent. If you follow these practical steps, they will help you on your writing journey. You can get my book, How to Write and Publish Books.
I've written some principles I used to write and publish my books and articles. In modern times, if you want to publish your books, some traditional publishers can help you distribute them.
If you are fortunate, you can get a literary agent who can connect you with a traditional publisher. You can also self-publish your books. We have Amazon self-publishing, holding over 60 to 70% of the e-book shares online.
Make sure that your book is well-written and edited. If you have a budget, employ a professional editor to edit your books. In summary, the practical key I used to write is that I pray a lot.
I pray in the Spirit, in tongues, and the Holy Ghost. When I pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit gives me the ideas to write. And when the ideas come, I write them down.
I write them in my exercise book, sometimes in my notepad, and other times on my laptop. I write them down as I'm praying when the opportunity arises. Reading more helps me shape my writing skills.
When I read a lot, it builds my writing capacity. I read a lot of Christian books. I read different kinds of books to help expand my knowledge on different subjects, but mainly, it's about Christian books. I also read the Holy Bible most often.
I am sacrificial, focused, and disciplined. I don't have time to watch television. I don’t have time to listen to all kinds of unnecessary information. I don't have time to be with friends, although it is good to have friends. You have to limit your time with social media and friends.
You have to limit yourself to things that will not help you. For example, switch off your phone and put things in order if you are writing. Don't allow distractions to limit you.
If you are writing, be focused and consistent. Believe that God has called you to write. Believe that God has called you to write and value yourself in Christ Jesus.
Believe that God has anointed you to write and then put your thoughts into writing. Keep writing, keep praying, keep reading, and keep building yourself. Be focused, and it will help you to become an excellent writer.
You will succeed if you follow these practical wisdom keys, which I used to write and publish my books. To self-publish, you can use Amazon, Draft2Digital, and Publisher Drive. I learned that Draft2Digital and Smashwords are merging.
Soon, Smash words and draft2digital will come together. They can publish your books to Amazon, Apple Books, Nook, Kobo, and online stores. You can publish paperback, hard paper, and audiobooks on these platforms.
The best master key to writing is to believe that God has called you to write. Don't devalue or undermine yourself. Don't allow the destructive criticism of others to overpower you because there will always be people criticizing you.
Some will speak evil about you. Others will look down on you. Don't allow their criticism to dominate you. Do not allow destructive criticism to undermine your value.
Believe that God has called you to write. Build a prayer life. Pray more in the Spirit as you read; the Holy Ghost will give you the ideas. That's what I often do. Be sacrificial. You have to be indoors. Sacrifice your time, resources, and energy to write and edit your books.
Sit before your laptop or desktop computer and write consistently. Be focused and consistent in your writing. Focus on one particular genre. Target your audience. Do not rush to become a writer, blogger, or author. I began writing on WhatsApp groups and social media handles.
Then, it went to articles and books. So, you can start writing on WhatsApp and Telegram and then post them online. Keep doing it. Consistently write on social media platforms; you can do it on a higher level.
Then, you can start writing articles where you can open a blog for yourself. You can use Blogger or WordPress. It's a step-by-step process. If you follow these masterpieces, they will help you on your writing journey.
